From electronic density to live sampling, Karina Sletten presents "There Have Been Many Pursuits," a new concert monologue in which she uses CDJs as tools for music production, sampling her own CD collection. Driven by a sensibility to listening, collaging, and rearranging words, music, and narratives, her work is rooted in free improvisation with an essayistic approach.

Dylan Kerr follows with "Substratum," a 40-minute composition for voice and fixed electronics drawing inspiration from the Hindustani Dhrupad tradition. The work explores how the voice, in juxtaposition with a mass of sine and sawtooth waves tuned in just intonation, generates psychoacoustic effects. A dense, pulsating mass gradually forms, recalling, in the artist's words, the sensation of slowly being subsumed in the vibrations beneath the surface of the earth.

The evening then turns toward song with Olan Monk, who will perform music from "Songs for Nothing," their latest album, released on AD 93 in November 2025. Written upon their return to live in Conamara on the west coast of Ireland, this fragmentary record veers between collaged pop, machinic rock, and slow airs, imbued with the influence of sean-nós singing — Irish-language songs in the "old style" that often proclaim tales of love, loss, and landscape.

Closing out the night, Dylan Kerr, Karina Sletten, and Olan Monk will be joined by South London Alpha Maid with an improvised solo performance of songs and sonic themes from her debut album ‘Is this a queue’, released on AD93 in October 2025. A fascination with particle physics and their superpositions heavily inspired the record, while sonically the record experiments with low dub sounds and Alpha Maid’s songwriting and guitar signature. ‘Is this a queue’ was written from an urge to shift states of recycled narrative in order to imagine in the present.

The evening is presented by C.A.N.V.A.S., an artist-run record label and performance platform founded by Olan Monk and Lugh O'Neill. Since 2018, it has brought together a dispersed community of musicians, performers, and artists through live events, recordings, and long-term collaborations.
